From 7 until 12 June 2022, we were present at the international Milan Design Week. Invited by Isaloni; Salone del Mobile.Milano, the leading manufacturers in the furniture sector, designers, and even craftsmen are grouped in one and the same exhibition space. A special year in plus because it was the 60 years of the Salone. For this great return after two years, the focus is on young designers, monumental installations as well as immersive exhibitions between reality and the metaverse universe. The quality of the creation and environmental issues also had a strong place during this week.

With more than 2,100 exhibitors spread over 20 pavilions of the Rho Fiera, Salone del Mobile furniture fair is the place to be.

11th edition of the Salon Satellite

It is a centre for emerging designers under 35 years, an unmissable event where more than 119 exhibitors showed their work around the theme: Designing for Our Future Selves, but the focus is mainly on the now key issue underpinning the approach to absolutely everything: sustainability. Each designer shares his own intention or innovation to face this challenge. Vintage boom but also a reflection on circularity, innovative recycled materials… Design explore many ways to reduce the carbon footprint of furniture while increasing its lifespan. Purity, pastels colours, refinement, raw materials such as clay, wood, non-conventional shape; let’s discovered…

Furnitures

Elegant proportions and a minimalist approach in the choice of materials, GLAS Italia was presented this poetic round low tables with Murano poured glass bases, hand shaped and chiseled by highly-tuned processing techniques. (1&2)

The interiors are clean with a return to natural materials such as wood with the brands E15 and Tribù. You can see exterior chair made by Tribù composed by subtly twisted rope braiding in Canax®, a weather-resistant material, geometrically tensioned on a stainless steel frame (3&4).

Non conventional and fluide shape with this Ringer collection, the first between Kettal and Michael Anastassiades has been designed with a minimalist coffee furniture approach. Michael used Kettal’s expertise in aluminum manufacturing to create a collection that is both robust and easy to move and match. (5&6)

Kitchen area

The inside the kitchen area is now more a sober and not only a kitchen space in the brands we visited; at Ernesto Meda; The omnipresence of the wood with plants, and touch or dark metals, offer a minimalist and modern definition, the perfect sharing area in this space where we spend the most time at home. (1). Mix of materials and colours with MK Style Italia, always thinking about a natural finishing. (2).

Technology and innovations with digital oven, ceramics hobs with central hood are in agreement with the design and aesthetics interiors. Presented in the most of the stand such as Siemens, Bora or NEFF (built-in appliance specialist), those technology are the final of a hard work to arrive at a futuristic and minimalist result, pleasant visually but also for easier maintenance. (3&4)

To continue with this true extension of the living room now, the harmony of Falmec(5) and their aesthetic and very functionals hobs. Bathroom area

For the most intimate room at home, shape above all but also the materials with Novello Your Bathroom (1) and their allusions of nature. The colours and technological research: the bathroom needs to create a soothing mood, making for a moment that is really one of personal well-being, away from the hectic life that we lead every day, such as Caremicacielo. (2). Companies’ trend towards products that combine design with eco-friendly functionality, ranging from water saving to the use of low-impact, recyclable and circular materials as SDR Ceramiche (3) ; presenting their sanitary furnishings in the Revolution® collection styled in collaboration with the designer Luca Papini in Livin-Stone®, an eco-friendly, recyclable and antibacterial material that makes for clear, sharply defined 90° perimeter edges and perfect surfaces free from porosity. The WC is 75% recyclable and its production saves more than 70% combustible energy, while the bidet is 100% recyclable.

With minimal visual impacts or a wealth of allusions to nature, every furniture, accessories are aligned with the thematic of this year ; Azzurra (4) produces furniture adaptable to all types of demands and interiors, but also products made to last in time. “Nice” by Fantini(5) it’s the joyful form of water, cheerful, transparent and coloured. A tribute to the essence of water and its pure and precious beauty. An elegant and sophisticated project with sensual lines. Another design of tap made with Essenza Collection (6) with metallic and refined line.

The majority of what we have seen this year is related to environmental issues, brands and designers try to resolve problems related to water for example. The allusion/illusion with nature, in terms of material lots of clay, and wood are used. The palette colours are really clear: pales and pastels colours. Adding that space is very open and aerial, and luminous. We noticed that out in haven’t now real differences: furniture is adapted for interior and exterior with technical fabrics for example. And to end up, play between sophisticated and functional design, with a very minimalist visual rendering.
